It's about as subtle as a brick through a window, but kids often like clear messages, and my son has definitely picked up on them! It's sparked some great conversations in our house and the characters are strong, interesting and flawed, which is still not that common in a children's book.

Revisiting this book as an adult, you realise that it's a very well-written story about family, commercialisation, the environment and redemption I mean, it's not "Of Mice and Men", but you know It's one of the Seuss books that's more appropriate for older children. Finally, coming up with lots of other things you could use a Thneed for is now a family joke, and a very creative one! I bought this book as a 10th birthday present for my sons step-daughter to encourage her to read aloud to her little sister.

It's not her birthday yet so she hasn't seen it. This 50th anniversary edition comes in a lovely solid heavy cardboard case. The hard cover is equally solid.

The quality of the print and the colours are as stunning as the original. There are tick box lists inside the front and back covers for small and larger projects that help a child engage themself and friends an d family with the environmental messages contained within the text of the book. I am thrilled with the quality of this book, especially as I bought it as a gift.

I'm very excited about reading it with the little girl it's for. First job will be to decide upon a voice and an accent for the Lorax himself. Report abuse. I have always loved this story, so much so that when I was in business college I used this book for a presentation on the environmental impacts of business. This is a really good book for introducing children to what happens when we abuse our environment. Perfect book for today's society. It discusses and clearly shows how the destruction of one thing can impact the entire eco system around it.

Buy this, share it with your children.. My little one is 5 and really enjoyed the story plus the conversation we had afterwards.. Absolutely wonderful children's book that both my son and I enjoyed very much. The illustrations are beautiful and as a 3 year old my son was able to understand the underlying 'moral' to the story. A really great book if you are looking to start a dialog with your children on social responsibility, the environment and the importance of nature. Would very much recommend.
